The Kaua'i Resource Center is open to residents, schools, and community organizations for facility tours.

An appointment is necessary, and tours may be limited by group size. Please call (808) 241-5112 to schedule a tour.

The Kauai Resource Center is located adjacent to the Lihue Transfer Station on Ahukini Road, near the Lihue Airport. The Resource Center is approximately 1/2 mile past the helicopter pads on your way to Ahukini Pier, and is clearly marked on the left side of the street.

Business Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday from 7:30 am to 4:15 pm. Closed for lunch 11:00 - 11:45.

The Kauai Resource Center Re-Opened on December 22, 2007

 

The County of Kauai is proud to announce the re-opening of the Kauai Resource Center on Ahukini Road near the airport in Lihue. 

 

The facility features a HI-5 deposit redemption center, and free recycling drop off for residents and businesses. The Kauai Resource Center accepts cardboard, newspaper, mixed paper, glass, plastic #1 & #2, and aluminum cans.

 

The facility is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 7:30 to 4:15 (closed Wednesdays and Sundays, closed for lunch from 11:00 to 11:45).

Customers should note that the traffic pattern has been reversed. You enter through the north side gate via the Lihue Transfer Station entrance way, and exit using the main gate through the Resource Center parking area.

The Kaua'i Resource Center was funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration, and is managed by the County of Kaua'i Solid Waste Division. This facility has expanded waste diversion opportunities on Kaua'i and created jobs in recycling. It also houses offices for Recycling staff which carry out other waste reduction, reuse, recycling and composting education programs.

The Kaua'i Resource Center includes:

  • A HI5 Certified Redemption Center
  • Free recycling drop off for residents and businesses
  • A recycled glass manufacturing shop
  • A public reference library on waste diversion
  • Packing peanuts and bubble wrap reuse
  • Dry, clean plastic shopping bags

The Kauai Resource Center accepts recyclable materials from residents and businesses. The following items are accepted for recycling:

 * Mixed Paper (incl. magazines)    * White Paper    * Cardboard    * Newspaper

* Plastic #1    * Plastic #2    * Aluminum    * Glass    * Shipping Peanuts (inside main building)  *Bi-Metal
