Prison sentence for fatal stabbing

LIHU‘E - Francisco Keola Manuel, 38, of Līhu‘e, was sentenced on Thursday to serve 20 years in prison for fatally stabbing another Līhu‘e man during a late-night confrontation in 2015.

Four HI5 redemption centers temporarily closed due to mechanical issues
The four HI5 bottle redemption centers that are operated by Kaua‘i Community Recycling Services (KCRS) will be temporarily closed beginning Friday, June 24, due to mechanical problems with their scale.

LIHUE – The Department of Water (DOW) has announced that its billing section will be closed for 2 hours on Thursday, June 30, from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

One lane of Puhi Road to close for four months; Only southbound traffic allowed on the roadway
PUHI – The public is advised that the first phase of the Puhi Road Rehabilitation project will kick into high gear next week. Traffic in the area will be impacted. Starting Monday, June 27, one lane of Puhi Road will be closed for four months. During the lane closure, only southbound traffic traveling away from Kaumuali‘i Highway will be allowed on the roadway.

LĪHU‘E – The public is reminded that University of Hawai‘i Head Football Coach Nick Rolovich and his staff will host two football camps this week. The camps will be held at the Vidinha Stadium on Wednesday, June 22, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 1 to 3 p.m.

LIHUE – Police have confirmed that a Kilauea man died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the Walmart parking lot in Līhu‘e Monday morning.
