Ocean Safety officials are advising no swimming at all North Shore beaches, west of the Hanalei Pavilion to Kē‘ē Beach, due to high surf and dangerous ocean conditions.

Neighborhood centers closed on Feb. 12 except for Līhu‘e
LĪHUE – To allow the staff at the county’s neighborhood centers to assist with the Seniors Valentine’s Day event, all of the centers will be closed on Friday, Feb. 12, except for Līhu‘e.

Blessing held for Moanakai seawall repair project
WAIPOULI – A blessing was held earlier this week to mark the start of the Moanakai seawall repair project. The seawall was built approximately 20 years ago after Hurricane Iniki to prevent further damage to Moanakai Road and to protect area residences along with the popular beach.

 PO'IPŪ – A 73-year-old male visitor apparently drowned Tuesday afternoon while snorkeling at Hanakaape Bay in Poipu.

Prison sentence for non-compliant sex offender

LIHU‘E – On Wednesday, Judge Kathleen Watanabe sentenced D O Lavern Vanaman Jr., 62, of Kapa‘a, to spend five years in prison for Failure to Comply with Covered Offender Registration Requirements.

Hardy Street improvement project completed
LĪHU'E – Local officials gathered earlier this week to celebrate the completion of the Hardy Street improvements in Līhu‘e. The $8 million project includes major enhancements that span the entire roadway, approximately 0.7 miles from Kūhiō Highway to Rice Street.
