Overview
The Investigative Services Bureau consists of three separate sections, having both similar and distinctly different law enforcement responsibilities. An Assistant Chief is the highest ranking officer in this bureau. A Police Captain is second in command.
The Adult Section follows-up on investigations that are referred to it by the Patrol Services Bureau, and initiates their own investigations when appropriate. They investigate all levels of crimes, from Petty Misdemeanors to Class-A Felonies; crimes against persons and/or property.
When fully-staffed, the personnel assigned to this section include:
- One (1) Lieutenant
- Ten (10) Detective Sergeants
- One (1) Support Clerk
The Youth Services Section's main investigative focus is on crimes that are either perpetrated by juveniles, or involve juvenile victim(s). This section also manages KPD's School Resource Officer (SRO) program in the High and Intermediate Schools, the Drug Awareness Resistance Education program (DARE), and the Gang Resistance Education And Training program (GREAT).
Missing persons, the Teen Court program, and domestic violence are other vital areas that are specifically addressed by the Youth Services Section.
When fully-staffed, the personnel assigned to this section include:
- One (1) Lieutenant
- Three (3) Detective Sergeants
- One (1) DARE/GREAT Sergeant
- Three (3) School Relations Officers
- Three (3) DARE/GREAT Officers
- One (1) Counselor
- One (1) Domestic Violence Coordinator
- One (1) Support Clerk
KPD's Vice Section initiates and/or follows up on all drug related investigations. This includes drug trafficking interdiction, marijuana eradication, and covert operations. Investigations are not limited to the confines of the County. Major cases have been successfully pursued throughout the State, Nation, and Foreign Countries.
When fully-staffed, the personnel assigned to this section include:
- One (1) Lieutenant
- One (1) Asset Forfeiture Sergeant
- One (1) Sergeant
- Twelve (12) Police Officers
All three of the ISB sections are involved both jointly and independently in crime prevention, departmental training and community education.
