Prison sentence in sex assault case

LIHU‘E - Steven Westerman, 40, of Kekaha, was sentenced today to serve twenty years in prison for sexually assaulting a relative when she was six and seven years old.

Ho‘ohu Road closed for waterline work on April 28

PO‘IPU – A portion of Ho‘ohu Road, between Pe‘e Road and Po‘ipu Crater Driveway, in Po‘ipu, will be closed on Thursday, April 28 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., weather permitting. The road closure will allow the Department of Water to repair a water service lateral.

Kaua‘i police responded to a report of a monk seal that was being attacked by an unidentified man at Salt Pond Beach at approximately 7:45 p.m. Tuesday night.

Four HI5 redemption centers temporarily closed due to mechanical issues
The four HI5 bottle redemption centers operated by Kaua‘i Community Recycling Services (KCRS) will be temporarily closed beginning Monday, April 25, due to mechanical problems with the scale that weighs containers prior to processing.

Injured hiker airlifted from Alakai Swamp

KOKE‘E – A 60-year-old Kaua‘i woman was airlifted from the Alakai Swamp Saturday afternoon after sustaining an injury. The woman had been hiking on the boardwalk at approximately 1:20 p.m. when she slipped and fell injuring her left ankle.

PUHI – County officials today announced that Resource Recovery Solutions, operator of Puhi Metals Recycling Center (PMRC), will be accepting eWaste free of charge starting June 1.

ANINI – The parking area around the boat ramp and adjacent parking lot at ‘Anini Beach Park will be closed to the public on May 10 and May 11 from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m.
