Established in 2003, the Ka Leo O Kaua`i, community meeting program , was an initiative of our past Mayor, Bryan Baptiste. The program’s intention is to build and strengthen our island’s communities. It encourages teamwork, partnerships and collaborative governing.
Meetings in 14 local areas take place bi-monthly. Each meeting includes time for residents to meet and get to know one another, an update on community projects and events, cultural sharing, community member recognition and a presentation on a topic of community interest.
Goals:
- Diverse representation from local communities
- Connections – neighbor to neighbor
- Establish “CERT” Community Emergency Response teams, “Adopt a Park groups”, and “Neighborhood Watches” in each town
- Help establish and work with existing community associations.
- Exchange of information between government and community
- Build teamwork
Community Members Can:
- Meet their neighbors
- Learn more about the workings of government
- Alert the County to safety issues
- Become more informed about their community
- Announce community events
- Learn about their community’s projects, events and initiatives
- Sign up to participate in their towns activities and programs
