Census Day is April 1, 2010 – Be Counted!

  What is the Census? Minimize

The decennial census is a headcount of every resident in the United States, including citizens and non-citizens. It has been conducted every 10 years since 1790 and is mandated by the U.S. Constitution (Article I, Section 2). In addition to determining congressional representation, the census describes who we are as a county, state, and nation.

Census questionnaires will take less than 10 minutes to complete and will be mailed or delivered to every U.S. household in March 2010. All responses are confidential and protected by law.

Why is the upcoming census important to Kauai County? Minimize

Census data affects you and your family because it determines Kaua'i’s allocation of federal and state funds, including more than $400 billion dollars of federal aid. It is also utilized to determine the need for additional social services, block grants, and other grant programs.

Kaua'i County uses census information for growth management and planning purposes, such as helping to forecast future transportation needs and to determine locations of infrastructure improvements, as well as many other projects.
