Hanalei transfer station resumes normal operations
HANALEI – County officials announced that repairs were made today to the mixed waste hopper at the Hanalei refuse transfer station. The facility has resumed normal operations.

Police arrest driver involved in hit-and-run crash
LUMAHAI  – A Wainiha man was arrested on Sunday morning after he left the scene of a traffic crash that resulted in injuries. The crash occurred just after midnight on Saturday along Kūhiō Highway in Lumaha‘i.

County announces holiday closures
LĪHU‘E – In observance of Memorial Day, County of Kaua'i offices will be closed on Monday, May 30, along with all refuse transfer stations, the Kekaha Landfill, all HI-5 bottle redemption centers, Puhi Metals Recycling Center, and Kaua'i Resource Center. In addition, all of the neighborhood centers will be closed.

Kaumualii Highway repairs continue on May 25, May 26

LIHUE – Motorists and residents are advised that due to weather delays, the Department of Water (DOW) will continue with the repair in a section of Kaumualii Highway, Route 50, in the vicinity of Mile Post 1.0, on Wednesday, May 25, and on Thursday, May 26, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. During this time, one westbound lane will be closed for the duration of the work.

Loose mixed waste still not accepted at Hanalei transfer station

HANALEI – The public is advised that loose mixed waste is still not being accepted at the Hanalei refuse transfer station due to a delay in the arrival of a critical component of the mixed waste hopper. It is anticipated that the part will arrive before the end of the month and the repair work can be completed.

Update on Kapahi bridge replacement project
KAPAHI – The public is advised that the Kapahi bridge is now closed to traffic, and will remain closed until the project is completed in May 2017. The project site is at the end of Kawaihau Road at its junction with Kahuna Road.

Location change for getting county camping permits
LĪHU‘E – County officials announced that over the next two months camping permits will be issued at the customer service window located at the Līhu‘e Civic Center, Pi‘ikoi Building. The change will be effective from June 1 to July 31.

 HANAPEPE – Fire officials have confirmed that five adults have died in a fiery plane crash that occurred just outside of Port Allen Airport in Hanapepe.

PO‘IPŪ – A 64-year-old male visitor from California apparently drowned while snorkeling in waters off Waiohai Beach Friday afternoon.

50 acres burned in Koke‘e brush fire
KOKE‘E – Three Kaua‘i Fire Department (KFD) companies along with Rescue 3, Air 1 and BC 1 responded to a brush fire atop a Koke‘e ridge at approximately 1:30 p.m. this afternoon.
