County announces holiday closures

LĪHU‘E – In observance of Thanksgiving Day, County of Kaua‘i offices will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 26 along with all refuse transfer stations, the Kekaha Landfill, Puhi Metals Recycling Center and the Kaua‘i Resource Center. In addition, the Kapa‘a and Waimea swimming pools, all neighborhood centers and the county’s Sunshine markets will be closed on the holiday.

Inattentive driver causes Wailua traffic crash

WAILUA – A female Hanamā‘ulu resident was cited Friday for inattention to driving, which caused a three-car collision along the Wailua Golf Course near mile marker 5.5.

Green waste not accepted at any refuse transfer station, except Līhu‘e

LĪHU‘E – Due to the weather, green waste is currently not being accepted at any of the refuse transfer stations except for Līhu‘e.

New rules for DOW’s Facilities Reserve Charge in effect Nov. 29
LIHUE – The Kauai Board of Water Supply approved yesterday to adopt the amendments to the Department of Water’s (DOW) Rules and Regulations regarding the Facilities Reserve Charge (FRC).

Mayor returns from goodwill tour of Japan

LĪHU'E – Mayor Bernard Carvalho, Jr. returned Sunday from a weeklong goodwill tour of two cities in Japan, Moriyama and Suo-Oshima, with stops in Kyoto and Hiroshima. The primary purpose of his visit was to explore economic development opportunities, while strengthening Kaua‘i’s sister city programs, engaging in discussions with other mayors, interacting with citizens of all ages as well as promoting tourism.

Hawaii State Judiciary hosts presentation on newly established Environment Court

LĪHU‘E – The Hawaii State Judiciary invites the public to attend a presentation to learn more about Hawai‘i’s newly established Environmental Court. The presentation will be held on Saturday, Nov. 21, from 12 to 1 p.m. at the Lihue Civic Center’s Pi`ikoi Conference Room 2A-2B.
