Long Range Planning Division

The Long-Range Planning Division administers the County's planning program and is responsible for the development, maintenance and implementation of Kaua‘i County’s General Plan, community development plans, and other related plans and projects. Data collection and analysis related to growth and land use issues are other important functions of the division. The division’s duties include: 
  • Preparation and implementation of long-range plans
  • Six-Year Capital Improvement Program Report
  • Multimodal Transportation Planning 
  • Preparation of special planning studies and projects
  • Data collection and analysis
  • GIS mapping and analysis
  • Participation in partner planning initiatives
  • Public outreach and education on planning issues  

Planning Documents

The Kaua‘i General Plan is a direction-setting policy document that serves as a guide to plan and improve the physical environment and quality of life for the people of Kaua‘i, and to address the overall development of the island. This document also states the County’s vision and establishes supportive objectives and actions. The General Plan was updated in 2018.

The County's six (6) planning districts are: Waimea-Kekaha, Hanapēpē-Eleele, Kōloa-Po‘ipū-Kalaheo, Līhu‘e, East Kaua‘i, and North Shore. The Planning Department is currently working to update several development plans. For more information, see "Get Involved!":
