HANAPĒPĒ – The Department of Public Works and Hi’ilawe Construction, LLC. held a blessing in Hanapēpē for the upcoming Hanapēpē Road Resurfacing Project on Wednesday, August 13. Work on this project will commence on September 17, weekdays from 7:30am to 3:30pm, except holidays, weather permitting.
The scope of this $3.9 million project includes road resurfacing along the entire length of Hanapēpē Road, on-ground or level concrete walkways from the East side of Hanapēpē Town to the Hanapēpē Bridge, increased number of parking stalls, additional crosswalks, and safety improvements at the intersections on Hanapēpē Road and Kaumuali‘i Highway.
Single lane closures will impact the following roads:
- West end of Hanapēpē Road, from the intersection at Kaumualii Highway to Puolo Road.
- Hanapēpē Road from the intersection with Iona Road and Hana Road to Kona Road.
- Hanapēpē Road from Kona Road to its intersection with Kaumualii Highway on the east end.
Motorists are advised to make the appropriate arrangements to accommodate the necessary road and lane closures, use alternative routes, follow detour signs, obey flaggers, drive with caution, and allow for extra time to get to destinations.
Businesses will remain open during road construction. Access will be maintained, but entrances may be adjusted as concrete and road work progresses. Additional traffic impacts will occur as the project progresses through Hanapepe Road, and overall construction is expected to be completed in Fall 2026.
Dates and times are subject to change depending on weather and other factors.
