The Kaua‘i Bus announces modified schedule in Līhu‘e for June 14

LIHUE – The Kauai Bus announces the following route adjustments for the 70 Lihue Shuttle on Saturday June 14, from 8 to 11 a.m. 

 Due to the King Kamehameha Day Parade on Rice Street, the following stops will not be serviced:

  • Rice Street / Hoolako Street.
  • Rice Street / Kalena Street.
  • Rice Street / Hardy Street.
  • Rice Street / Umi Street.
  • Rice Street / Ewalu Street.

The following roads will be closed from 8 to 11 a.m.:

  • Rice Street, from Hookalo Street to Eiwa Street;
  • Hoolako Street, from Vidniha Stadium to Rice Street;
  • Umi Street, from Hardy Street to Rice Street; and
  • Eiwa Street, from Hardy Street to Rice Street;

The 7:55 a.m., 8:55 a.m., and 9:55 a.m. Līhu‘e Shuttles will go from across the Garden Island Inn straight to Līhu‘e Gardens,  and from Eiwa Street (Līhu‘e Civic Center) to Garden Island Inn. Riders needing to access Rice Street will need to board/disembark from Eiwa Street (Līhu‘e Civic Center).

Kaua‘i Bus launches mobile ticketing app powered by Masabi

The Kaua‘i Bus has launched a new digital fare payment system powered by Masabi, enabling riders to purchase tickets and manage Stored Value Accounts (SVA) through a mobile app or online portal. This update allows for convenient access to single-ride tickets, day passes, and more. The system includes onboard ticket validators, improving boarding efficiency. The partnership with Masabi marks the first step in modernizing the bus network, with future plans for Account-Based Ticketing and Open Payments, aiming to provide fare capping, flexible payment options, and a more accessible transit experience. The new app is available for immediate use.

 


 

Reduced Fare Application

In order for us to evaluate your application for a The Kaua‘i Bus Reduced Fare ID Card, you must have your Licensed Practicing Physician certify that you are eligible for this program. Only Physicians are able to certify the medical section of this application.

Paratransit Service and ADA Application

Paratransit Service:
Paratransit service is available for qualified individuals in the categories below. Service days and hours are the same as public transportation. Reservations are required no later than 4:30 PM the day prior for curb-to-curb pickups. Reservations can be made by calling (808)246-8110 menu option #2 or they can be emailed to TheKauaiBus@kauai.gov 

  • Senior: Individuals must be 65 years and older and registered with the County Transportation Agency..
  • ADA: (Americans with Disabilities Act) - Individuals must be certified and registered as ADA eligible for service.

The Kaua'i Bus operates a Public (Fixed Route) bus service and a Paratransit (Door-to-Door) bus service from Hanalei to Kekaha daily.

Fixed Route Service: (bus stop to bus stop)

5:15 a.m. - 9:45 p.m.
(Monday through Saturday, including most Holidays

Each bus has a destination sign on the front and curb side of the bus, displaying the route number.

*Although Drivers follow a predetermined schedule, arrival at bus stops may be affected by traffic, operating conditions and route deviations.
