Child Seriously Injured Following Single-Vehicle Crash

LĪHU‘E – A child sustained serious injuries following a single-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon on Kūhiō Highway.

On December 23, 2025, at approximately 5:00 p.m., a 2025 Toyota SUV was traveling northbound on Kūhiō Highway near Wailua Golf Course when it sideswiped a guardrail and struck a utility pole, causing the vehicle to spin. During the incident, a child was ejected from the vehicle and suffered serious bodily injuries.

The child was transported to Wilcox Medical Center for initial treatment and later transferred to Kapi‘olani Medical Center for further care. Based on preliminary information, a 35-year-old woman from Wailua may have been operating the vehicle at the time of the crash. Two additional passengers were not injured, and no other vehicles were involved.

Toxicology results are pending, and the exact cause of the collision remains under investigation. Kūhiō Highway was closed for approximately two hours while the Kauaʻi Police Department’s Traffic Safety Section conducted an on-scene investigation.
