Finance Department News Release

LĪHU‘E – The Finance Department announces a new partnership with five local credit unions to make paying real property taxes easier and more convenient for residents.

Beginning Monday, February 9, 2026, property owners will be able to set up automatic real property tax payments directly through their participating credit union. This includes Gather Federal Credit Union, Kauai Federal Credit Union, Garden Island Federal Credit Union, McBryde Federal Credit Union, and Kauai Ohana Federal Credit Union. This option helps ensure payments are made on time and reduces the risk of missed deadlines.

“This partnership is about meeting residents where they are and making essential services easier to access,” said Mayor Derek S. K. Kawakami. “By working with our local credit unions, we are offering a practical tool that supports financial stability and strengthens our community.”

This collaboration reflects the County’s continued commitment to modernizing services and improving customer convenience. By utilizing the credit unions’ trusted financial platforms, taxpayers will benefit from the following:

  • Automatic payment enrollment, allowing members to authorize recurring real property tax payments without manual processing.
  • Secure transactions processed through the credit unions’ established banking systems, providing data protection and peace of mind.
  • A local partnership rooted in a shared mission to support the Kaua‘i community through accessible, reliable, and locally focused services.

Gather Federal Credit Union CEO Tess Shimabukuro added, "Our members trust us to simplify their financial lives. By working with the County, Kauai’s credit unions are  delivering a convenient option that aligns with our commitment to community-focused banking."

For more information on how to enroll in automatic real property tax payments, property owners should contact their local credit union.
