Firefighters extinguish Puhi structure fire Thursday

PUHI  – Kaua‘i Fire Department firefighters extinguished a warehouse structure fire in Puhi on Hulemalu Road on Thursday.

No injuries were reported. However, two dogs were recovered. No nearby structures were damaged.

Firefighters were dispatched to a report of a warehouse structure fire on Hulemalu Road in Puhi shortly after 1:15 p.m. Thursday.

Personnel from the Līhu‘e and Kalāheo fire stations, Rescue 3, the Fire Prevention Bureau, the Kaua‘i Police Department, and the on-duty Battalion Chief responded to the incident.

According to a preliminary report, upon arrival shortly after 1:25 p.m., firefighters discovered a vacant warehouse fully engulfed in flames on Hulemalu Road. As firefighters were fighting the blaze, personnel with Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative turned off power to the building.

 After firefighters extinguished the fire, KFD Fire Prevention investigators took over the scene and conducted an investigation.

Firefighters cleared the scene shortly after 3:15 p.m.

Damages to structure and contents are estimated at $15,000.
