Firefighters extinguish structure fire in Kekaha Sunday

KEKAHA – Kaua‘i Fire Department firefighters extinguished a structure fire in Kekaha on Sunday, November 30.

Firefighters were dispatched to a report of a structure fire at the Thrifty Mini Mart in Kekaha on Sunday shortly after 7:45 p.m.

Personnel with the Waimea, Hanapēpē, and Kalāheo fire stations, the Fire Prevention Bureau, and the on-duty Battalion Chief responded to the incident.

According to a preliminary report, upon arrival shortly after 7:50 p.m., firefighters discovered smoke coming from the structure’s roof. Crews initiated an offensive fire attack, located the fire, and successfully extinguished it. The fire was confined to the attic area of the structure.

One individual requested medical evaluation by AMR personnel for faintness but was not transported to the hospital. No injuries were reported.

KFD Fire Prevention Bureau investigators took over the scene and conducted an investigation.

Firefighters cleared the scene shortly before 12:30 a.m. Monday, December 1.

Damages to the structure and contents are estimated at $308,000.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
