LĪHU‘E – The Kauaʻi Police Department (KPD) is reminding the public that threats of violence involving schools and school-related activities will not be tolerated following a reported social media post.

Over the weekend, KPD investigated a social media post allegedly threatening to bring a firearm to a high school football game. Officers made contact with those involved, and one individual was detained. The investigation has been forwarded to the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney for review.

KPD takes all threats involving school safety seriously. Threats of violence against students, school personnel, or others attending school-related activities, including athletic events, will not be tolerated. The department will thoroughly investigate such incidents and pursue appropriate enforcement action to the fullest extent permitted by law.

“KPD will not tolerate threats that put our schools or community at risk. We are committed to thoroughly investigating these reports and pursuing appropriate action, but keeping our community safe also requires everyone to do their part. We urge anyone who becomes aware of a potential threat to speak up and report it to law enforcement,” said Chief Rudy Tai.

KPD works closely with school officials and community partners to assess reported threats, share information as appropriate, and support the safety and security of Kauaʻi’s schools. The department remains committed to responding promptly to reports of potential threats and holding individuals accountable when violations occur.

Anyone with information regarding a potential threat to school safety is encouraged to contact the Kauaʻi Police Department’s non-emergency line at (808) 241-1711. If the situation is an emergency, call 911.
