Public Works Department crews respond to wastewater spill at Hanapēpē

3 p.m. UPDATE: The spill resulted from a broken coupler and entered the adjacent storm drain. Operators promptly responded to restore the equipment to operational status and thoroughly disinfected the area.

LĪHUʻE – The County of Kaua’i’s Department of Public Works is responding to a spill caused by a collection system equipment failure at the Hanapēpē Fire Station Sewer Pump Station on Saturday, Sept. 12.

The Wastewater Management Division responded to this spill at 12 p.m.

The spill volume is approximately 1,200 gallons. Crews will be cleaning and disinfecting the site.

The State Department of Health has been notified.
