‘ANINI – The search for a missing swimmer in waters off ‘Anini Beach resumed Monday.
Hanalei firefighters, Rescue 3 aboard Air 1, and ocean safety officers from the North Roving Patrol Unit initiated the search at approximately 12:15 p.m. on Sunday, when a group of snorkelers realized one person in their group did not return to shore.
The missing snorkeler, a 59-year-old male of Arizona, was last seen at approximately 11:45 a.m. on Sunday near the back channel of ‘Anini Beach.
Additional personnel from the Kaua‘i Fire Department and Kaua‘i Police Department arrived on scene and launched drones to assist with the search on Sunday, and the U.S. Coast Guard also assisted by boat and helicopter.
The search continued Sunday until sunset, and resumed at daylight on Monday with all agencies involved. Volunteers with Kaua‘i Search and Rescue also joined in the effort. So far, there has been no sign of the man.
