TRAFFIC ADVISORY: 2026 Kaua’i Marathon and Half-Marathon on Sept. 6

KŌLOA – The Kauaʻi Police Department (KPD) is advising the public of full and partial road closures affecting the towns of Kōloa, Poʻipū, Ōmaʻo, Lāwaʻi, and Kālaheo on Sunday, Sept. 6, 2026 from 5 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the 2026 Kaua’i Marathon and Half-Marathon.  

Road Closures:

  • All roads that provide access into Kōloa and Poʻipū areas will be closed to through traffic from 6:30 - 8 a.m.
  • Poʻipū Road (from Poʻipū Roundabout to Ala Kinoiki/Kōloa Bypass) will be closed from 5:15 - 6:30 a.m.
  • Ho‘onani Road (from Lāwa‘i Road to Kapili Road) will be closed from 4:15 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
  • The portion of Kōloa Road near the Kaumualiʻi Highway/Route 50 intersection will be closed to all inbound and outbound traffic from 6:00 a.m.- 12:30 p.m.
  • Lauoho Road, Waha Road, and Puʻu Road will be closed from 7 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
  • ʻŌmaʻo Road (from Kaumualiʻi Highway/Route 50 to Kōloa Road) will be closed from 6 - 9:30 a.m.
  • Ala Kinoiki/Kōloa Bypass will be closed from 5:45 - 7:45 a.m.
  • Maluhia Road (from Ala Kinoiki/Kōloa Bypass to Kaumualiʻi Highway/Route 50) will be closed from 6 - 8 a.m.

Partial Road Closures:

  • Kaumualiʻi Highway/Route 50 (from Maluhia Road/Tree Tunnel to ʻŌmaʻo Road) will have alternating, one-way traffic from 6 - 9 a.m.
  • Papalina Road (from Waha Road to Puʻu Road) will have alternating, one-way traffic from 7 -11:30 am.
  • Lāwaʻi Road and Spouting Horn inbound and outbound traffic will be re-routed through The Shops at Kukuiʻula.
  • Ala Kalanikaumaka/Kukuiʻula Bypass will be closed from 6:30 a.m.- 1 p.m. Outbound traffic from the Poʻipū roundabout to Kōloa Road will remain open.

Motorists are advised to exercise caution while driving in order to protect the safety of all marathon participants.
