The Flash Flood Warning for Kaua‘i has been canceled. A Flood Advisory is in effect through 5 p.m. today. In addition, a Flood Watch remains through 6 a.m. Monday. A Flood Watch is issued when conditions are favorable for a specific hazardous weather event to occur. The watch and advisory may be extended, dropped, or modified as conditions develop.

Officials announce the following updates:

Rescues:

First responders with the Kaua‘i Fire Department (KFD) rescued three hikers at Blue Hole near Loop Road at Wailua early Sunday afternoon. The hikers declined medical treatment. During severe weather events, KFD advises against outdoor activities, including hiking near rivers and streams. These activities are dangerous and may put our first responders and outdoor enthusiasts at risk.

Road closures:

Various crews from the Department of Public Works Roads Maintenance Division and the Hawai‘i Department of Transportation continue to respond to issues of closures on island.

Drive times of an hour or more have been reported traversing to and from Kūhiō Highway at the Wailua River Bridge. Officials strongly advise those with appointments and flights to make the appropriate arrangements and take the reported hour-long or more traffic waits into effect with their drive times.

The following roads have been reportedly closed as of this update:

  • Wailua:
    • Southbound lanes of Kūhiō Highway at Wailua Bridge remain closed. Traffic in both directions remains open on the northbound bridge.
    • Apana Road in Wailua is closed due to heavy ponding.
  • Līhu‘e:
    • Pua Loke Street near Haleko Road remains closed due to a sinkhole and a leaning utility pole.
  • Kalāheo
    • Wawae Road, east of Kikala Road, is clear after a small landslide. However, motorists are advised to proceed with caution.
  • Po‘ipū:
    • Ho‘one Road and Kuai Road near Po‘ipū Beach Park are closed due to flooding. Additionally, the entire parking lot at Po‘ipū Beach Park is flooded.
