7:15 P.M., July 29, County of Kaua‘i, Tsunami Warning Update
The Tsunami Warning for the County of Kaua‘i is currently ongoing. County officials warn that more waves could affect Kaua'i. If more waves occur, they will be approximately 20 to 30 minutes later than the one before. Do not be complacent. Below is the current status of the Tsunami Warning in the County of Kaua‘i as of 7:15 p.m., July 29. Road Closures The following bridges are closed to all traffic: Kaumualii Highway at Fort Elizabeth (Russian Fort) Kaumualii Highway west of Lele Road junction Kaumualii Highway and Waialo Road junction Traffic Round-About (Po‘ipu Road) Ala Kinoiki Road and Weliweli Road junction Nawiliwili Road and Lala Road junction Rice Street and Mokoi Street junction Kuhio Highway and Kapule Highway junction Kuhio Highway and Kamole Road junction Kuhio Highway and Hanalei Plantation Road Following the closure of bridges, County officials and emergency partners request the public to evacuate to available high ground and shelter in place. Shelters The complete list of refuge areas open are: Kapa'a High School Kapa'a Middle School - capacity has been reached at this refuge area. Ele'ele Elementary School Kōloa Library Kaua'i Community College Kalāheo Neighborhood Center Kīlauea Elementary School Kaua'i Christian Fellowship in Poʻipū Waimea High School Evacuation Notices County officials ask those in coastal areas or tsunami inundation zones to evacuate to an open refuge area. If you are unable, seek high ground and shelter in place. KIUC Updates There are currently no updates from the Kaua'i Island Utility Cooperative. Department of Water There are currently no updates from the Kaua'i Department of Water. EOC Status The Emergency Operations Center is currently activated to Level 1, full activation. All emergency support function have been activated. Parks The Department of Parks and Recreation advise all members of the public to evacuate County campgrounds and beach parks. The National Weather Service (NWS) issued Tsunami Warning for the State of Hawaii at 2:43 p.m. on July 29 due to an 8.7 magnitude earthquake off the east coast of Kamchatka, Russia.
