WAINIHA – Kaua‘i Fire Department personnel continue to battle a brush fire on a ridge above Wainiha Powerhouse Road. Officials estimated the size of the fire to be 20 acres.
Response
Air 1 continues to drop water in the affected area, with Air 2 en route. Due to the terrain, the fire is inaccessible to firefighters.
Fire crews kept watch overnight Wednesday, and have command post at Camp Naue. Fire personnel are also patrolling Wainiha Powerhouse Road and the Hā‘ena area.
Advisories/traffic notices
Officials received reports of smoke entering homes in the area. However, there are no road closures or fire threats to homes at this time.
Resources
Personnel with the Hanalei Fire Station, Tanker 1, Air 1, Air 2, and the on-duty Battalion Chief are responding to the incident. Private landowners, Rescue 3, and the Kaua‘i Police Department also responded.
Emergency personnel with the Kaua‘i Emergency Management Agency are monitoring and are on standby if additional support is needed.
According to a preliminary report, the fire was reported at approximately 8:35 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 18.
