Bicyclist Injured in Saturday Collision on Kūhiō Highway

LĪHU‘E – Police responded to a traffic collision Saturday afternoon on Kūhiō Highway.

On January 17, 2026, at approximately 3:00 p.m., a 2003 Toyota truck was exiting the Līhu‘e 7-Eleven parking lot and attempting to turn northbound onto Kūhiō Highway when it collided with a northbound bicyclist. According to preliminary reports, the bicyclist was not wearing a helmet.

The bicyclist, a 71-year-old man from Līhu‘e, was transported to Wilcox Medical Center, where he was treated and released. The driver of the truck, a 50-year-old man from Līhu‘e, reported no injuries.

One of the northbound lanes of Kūhiō Highway was closed for approximately 1.5 hours as officers with the Kauaʻi Police Department’s Traffic Safety Section conducted an on-scene investigation. The investigation is ongoing.
