LĪHU‘E – Residents are encouraged to take time to review and clear out home medicine cabinets as part of Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 25, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Kauaʻi Police Department, 3990 Kaʻana Street in Līhuʻe.

The Kauaʻi Police Department, in collaboration with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), will provide a free and anonymous drive-thru medication collection. Community members may safely dispose of unused, unwanted, or expired medications without leaving their vehicles. This service is free, anonymous, and no questions will be asked.

Accepted items include tablets, capsules, liquids, patches, and other prescription or non-prescription medications. Vapes or e-cigarette devices will be accepted only if batteries have been removed. Needles and syringes, whether new or used, will not be accepted.

Unused medications kept in the home can present safety risks, including accidental ingestion or use by someone other than the intended patient. Improper disposal can also contribute to environmental impacts if medications are flushed or discarded in household trash.

At the last event, over 600 pounds of unwanted medications were collected. For those unable to attend, a permanent, anonymous medication drop box is available year-round at the Kauaʻi Police Department in Līhuʻe.

Drug Take Back Day is part of a nationwide initiative led by the DEA. For more information, visit www.dea.gov/takebackday.
