DOW announces 50-gallon rain barrel grand prize drawing and food drive

LĪHUE – In honor of Earth Day 2025, the Department of Water (DOW) announces a rain barrel grand prize drawing in April. A rain barrel is a container that captures and stores rainwater from the roof. The collected rainwater is a valuable source for gardening. A total of three, 50-gallon rain barrels will be given away, to encourage water conservation outdoors and help customers reduce their water bill. 

Who can apply?

• Kauaʻi households, businesses, schools, and organizations.
• Applicants must be 19 years or older.
• Applicants must arrange their pickup and delivery.

To participate in the rain barrel giveaway, applicants may visit the DOW office in Līhue and fill out an entry ticket.  The contest drawing will be held on April 30, 2025.

While there, consider donating to DOWʻs month-long Earth Day Food Drive for the Hawaiʻi Food Bank and the Kauaʻi Independent Food Bank.  The donation of non-perishable food items helps to reduce food waste in Kauaʻi County.  Checks will also be accepted and should be made out to Kauaʻi Independent Food Bank or Hawaiʻi Food Bank.
