LĪHU‘E — Personnel from the Kaua‘i Fire Department rescued a 31-year-old Wisconsin visitor from the Kalalau Trail on Thursday, October 2.
Personnel with Līhu‘e Fire Station aboard Air 1 responded to the incident shortly after 4:35 p.m. on Thursday.
First responders arrived on scene near the 1.5 mile landing zone and discovered the distressed hiker with heat stroke. Initial first aid was administered on scene by good samaritans. The hiker was then short hauled to the Hanakāpī‘ai Stream landing zone and loaded into the helicopter, where they were taken to Princeville Airport. Upon landing at Princeville Airport, the hiker was transferred to American Medical Response for medical care.
The scene was cleared shortly after 6:25 p.m.
