Distressed hiker rescued on Kalalau Trail Tuesday

LĪHU‘E  — Personnel from the Kaua‘i Fire Department rescued a 48-year-old Tennessee visitor from the Kalalau Trail on Tuesday, April 8.

First responders received a report of a distressed hiker shortly after 5:30 p.m.

Personnel with Hanalei Fire Station, Ocean Safety Bureau, and American Medical Response responded to the incident.

According to a preliminary report, firefighters and county lifeguards hiked approximately one mile into the trail and discovered the hiker with signs of apparent heat exhaustion. He was making slow but steady progress towards the trailhead and made it out just after sunset. AMR personnel assessed the hiker and found no medical care needed.

The scene was cleared shortly after 7:30 p.m.
