Firefighters extinguish 3-acre brush fire in Kalihiwai Wednesday

KALIHIWAI – Kaua‘i Fire Department firefighters extinguished a 3-acre brush fire near Halaulani Road in Kalihiwai on Wednesday, Dec. 18.
No injuries or damaged structures were reported.
Firefighters with the Hanalei, Kaiākea, and Kalāheo fire stations, Rescue 3, Tender 1, Air 1, Air 2, and the on-duty Battalion Chief responded to the incident.
Personnel with the Kaua‘i Emergency Management Agency also monitored the fire and was on standby for support.
According to a preliminary report, first responders received a report from Kaua‘i Police Dispatch of a fire near Kamookoa Road in Kalihiwai at approximately 2:55 p.m.
When firefighters arrived on the scene, they discovered a one-acre fire near Halaulani Road. Crews migrated to the surrounding tree line to mitigate the spread of the fire. With Air 1, Air 2, and Tender 1, crews fully extinguished the fire at approximately 5:35 p.m.
The scene was cleared shortly before 5:45 p.m.
The cause of the fire was deemed accidental.
