Firefighters extinguish Līhu‘e structure fire Thursday

LĪHU‘E  – Kaua‘i Fire Department firefighters extinguished a structure fire in Līhu‘e on Thursday.

No injuries were reported, and no other buildings were damaged.

Firefighters were dispatched to a report of a structure fire on Kūhiō Highway in Līhu‘e on Thursday shortly after 5:50 p.m.

Personnel from the Līhu‘e fire station, Rescue 3, the Fire Prevention Bureau, and the on-duty Battalion Chief responded to the incident.

According to a preliminary report, firefighters arrived shortly after and discovered smoke exiting from a commercial building. With the Kaua‘i Police Department on the scene, crews with Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative turned off electricity in the area.

Firefighters located the fire in a wall, controlled the blaze, and fully extinguished it. Later, KFD Fire Prevention Bureau investigators took over the scene and conducted an investigation.

While fire crews were on scene, Kaua‘i Police directed southbound traffic onto Ahukini Road and northbound traffic onto Poinciana Street for approximately 45 minutes.

Firefighters cleared the scene shortly before 6:45 p.m.

Damages to structure and contents are estimated at $7,000.

After an investigation by the KFD Prevention Bureau, the cause of the fire was deemed undetermined.
