Firefighters extinguish industrial structure fire Friday

KNUDSON GAP  – Kaua‘i Fire Department firefighters extinguished an industrial structure fire at Knudson Gap on Kuia Place on Friday, March 8.

No injuries were reported.

Firefighters were dispatched to a report of an industrial structure fire on Kuia Place at Knudson Gap shortly after 3:10 p.m. on Friday.

Personnel from the Kōloa, Līhu‘e, and Kalāheo fire stations, Rescue 3, the Fire Prevention Bureau, the Kaua‘i Police Department, and the on-duty Battalion Chief responded to the incident.

According to a preliminary report, upon arrival shortly before 3:25 p.m., firefighters with the Līhu‘e fire station discovered the second floor of an industrial structure engulfed in flames on Kuia Place. KFD personnel with Rescue 3, Truck 3, and the Kalāheo and Kōloa fire stations arrived shortly after. The fire was controlled and later extinguished.

 After firefighters extinguished the fire, KFD Fire Prevention investigators took over the scene and conducted an investigation.

Firefighters cleared the scene at approximately 5:55 p.m.

Damages to structure and contents are estimated at $500,000

The cause of the fire has been determined as accidental.
