Firefighters extinguish structure fire in Anahola Tuesday

ANAHOLA – Kaua‘i Fire Department firefighters extinguished a structure fire in Anahola on Tuesday, June 16.
No injuries were reported.
Firefighters were dispatched to a report of a structure fire on Aliomanu Road shortly after 6:10 p.m. on Tuesday.
Personnel with the Keālia Fire Station, Kapa‘a Fire Station, Līhu‘e Fire Station, the on-duty Battalion Chief, the Prevention Bureau, the Kaua‘i Police Department, and the Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative responded to the incident.
According to a preliminary report, upon arrival shortly before 6:25 p.m., firefighters arrived on scene to find light smoke coming from the second-story entrance of a residential structure under construction in Anahola. A neighboring resident had begun suppressing the fire with a garden hose prior to firefighters' arrival.
Firefighters conducted an exterior assessment of the structure and stretched a hose line to the second floor, where crews made entry and began fire attack operations. The fire was confined to the second-story lanai area near the entrance and had extended to portions of the exterior wall, porch flooring, railing, and wall assembly.
The fire was brought under control shortly after firefighters arrived on scene. Personnel remained at the property to ensure all hotspots had been put out before transferring the scene to Fire Prevention investigators.
Firefighters cleared the scene shortly before 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Damages to the structure and contents are estimated at $41,000.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
