HANAMĀ‘ULU – Firefighters extinguished a structure fire that broke out in a Hanamā‘ulu residence Friday afternoon which left eight people displaced.
No injuries were reported.
At approximately 1:30 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to a structure fire on Kailewa Street in Hanamā‘ulu. Personnel from the Līhu‘e and Kapa‘a fire stations were dispatched to the scene. The on-duty battalion chief and firefighters from the Fire Prevention Bureau also responded to the incident.
Firefighters arrived on scene and found a single-story residence on fire. Occupants of the home were in the structure at the start of the fire but exited safely prior to the arrival of responders.
Crews brought the fire under control and fully extinguished all flames. Firefighters ensured there was no fire extension in other areas of the structure before clearing the scene at approximately 3 p.m.
Fire inspectors estimate the damage to the structure and its contents to be roughly $300,000.
Volunteers with the American Red Cross are assisting the displaced individuals.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation and no further information is available at this time.
