Firefighters extinguish structure fire in Hanapēpē Saturday

HANAPĒPĒ – Kaua‘i Fire Department firefighters extinguished a structure fire in Hanapēpē on Saturday, January 10.

No injuries were reported.

Firefighters were dispatched to a report of a structure fire at Girard’s Quality Cleaners on Hanapēpē Road in Hanapēpē on Saturday shortly after 2:25 a.m.

Personnel with Kalāheo, Hanapēpē, and Waimea fire stations, Rescue 3, the Fire Prevention Bureau, and the on-duty Battalion Chief responded to the incident.

According to a preliminary report, upon arrival shortly after 2:30 a.m., firefighters discovered a building on fire. First responders successfully extinguished the fire, which originated on the first floor of the structure.

KFD Fire Prevention Bureau investigators took over the scene and conducted an investigation.

Firefighters cleared the scene shortly before 7:05 a.m.

Damages to the structure and contents are estimated at $4,388,000.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
