Firefighters extinguish structure fire in Kalāheo Sunday

KALĀHEO – Kaua‘i Fire Department firefighters extinguished a structure fire in Kalāheo on Sunday, August 3.
No injuries were reported.
Firefighters were dispatched to a report of a structure fire on Kaumuali‘i Highway in Kalāheo on Sunday shortly after 2:00 a.m.
Personnel with the Kalāheo, Hanapēpē, and Līhu‘e fire stations, the Fire Prevention Bureau, and the on-duty Battalion Chief responded to the incident.
According to a preliminary report, upon arrival shortly after 2:05 a.m., firefighters discovered smoke coming from a residence. First responders successfully extinguished the fire, which originated on the first floor of the structure.
KFD Fire Prevention Bureau investigators took over the scene and conducted an investigation.
Firefighters cleared the scene shortly 4:40 a.m.
Damages to the structure and contents are estimated at $250,000.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
