KALĀHEO – Firefighters extinguished a structure fire that broke out in a Kalāheo residence on Friday night and left three people displaced.
No injuries were reported.
At approximately 8 p.m., firefighters from the Kalāheo, Hanapēpē, Waimea, and Līhu‘e fire stations were dispatched to Pu‘uwai Road in Kalāheo, after receiving reports of a house on fire. The on-duty battalion chief and firefighters from the Fire Prevention Bureau also responded to the incident.
Firefighters arrived on scene and found a single-story residence fully engulfed in flames. No occupants of the residence were inside or around the scene.
After establishing a water supply, the fire was brought under control and fully extinguished. Crews cleared the scene at approximately 11:30 p.m.
Fire inspectors estimate the damage to the structure and its contents to be roughly $500,000.
The owner and occupants of the property were not on scene; however, according to a preliminary report, officials believe there were three people who lived in the residence.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation and no further information is available at this time.
