Firefighters extinguish structure fire in Līhu‘e Tuesday

LĪHU‘E – Kaua‘i Fire Department firefighters extinguished a structure fire in Līhu‘e on Tuesday, Jan. 21.
No injuries were reported.
Firefighters were dispatched to a report of a structure fire on Umi Street in Līhu‘e on Tuesday shortly before 1 p.m.
Personnel with the Kapa‘a, Kalāheo, and Līhu‘e fire stations, the Fire Prevention Bureau, the on-duty Battalion Chief, Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative, and the Kaua‘i Police Department responded to the incident.
According to a preliminary report, upon arrival at approximately 1 p.m., firefighters discovered smoke exiting from the rooftop vent of a one-story business building. Crews made their way in and encountered heavy smoke. First responders found the origin of the fire and fully extinguished it.
KFD Fire Prevention Bureau investigators took over the scene and conducted an investigation.
Firefighters cleared the scene shortly before 3:15 p.m.
Damages to the structure and contents are estimated at $90,000.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
