Firefighters extinguish structure fire in Nawiliwili Tuesday

LĪHU'E – Kaua‘i Fire Department firefighters extinguished a structure fire in Nawiliwili on Tuesday, August 12.
No injuries were reported.
Firefighters were dispatched to a report of a structure fire at the Royal Sonesta Kaua‘i Resort in Nawiliwili on Tuesday shortly before 10:45 a.m.
Personnel with the Līhu‘e, Kalāheo, and Kapa‘a fire stations, the Fire Prevention Bureau, and the on-duty Battalion Chief responded to the incident.
According to a preliminary report, upon arrival shortly after 10:50 a.m., firefighters discovered smoke coming from the structure’s laundry room. First responders successfully extinguished the fire, which originated in the laundry room of the structure.
KFD Fire Prevention Bureau investigators took over the scene and conducted an investigation.
Firefighters cleared the scene shortly before 12:15 p.m.
Damages to the structure and contents are estimated at $150,000.
The cause of the fire was accidental.
