Firefighters extinguish structure fire in Port Allen Thursday

‘ELE‘ELE – Kaua‘i Fire Department firefighters extinguished a structure fire in Port Allen on Thursday, July 17.
No injuries were reported. One individual was displaced.
Firefighters were dispatched to a report of a structure fire on Waialo Road in Port Allen on Thursday shortly after 9:45 p.m.
Personnel with the Hanapēpē, Waimea, and Līhu‘e fire stations, the Fire Prevention Bureau, the on-duty Battalion Chief, and the Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative responded to the incident.
According to a preliminary report, upon arrival shortly after 9:50 p.m., firefighters discovered a residence on fire. The Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative shut off power to the units. First responders successfully extinguished the fire, which originated on the first floor of the structure.
KFD Fire Prevention Bureau investigators took over the scene and conducted an investigation.
Firefighters cleared the scene shortly before 11:00 p.m.
Damages to the structure and contents are estimated at $116,000.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
