Firefighters extinguish structure fire in Waimea Sunday

WAIMEA – Kaua‘i Fire Department firefighters extinguished a structure fire in Waimea Sunday, April 19.
No injuries were reported.
Firefighters were dispatched to a report of a structure fire on Ola Road in Waimea on Wednesday shortly after 12:40 a.m.
Personnel with the Waimea Fire Station, Hanapēpē Fire Station, and the on-duty Battalion Chief responded to the incident.
According to a preliminary report, upon arrival shortly before 12:45 a.m., firefighters discovered a one story abandoned building on fire, originating from underneath the structure. First responders successfully extinguished the fire.
KFD Fire Prevention Bureau investigators took over the scene and conducted an investigation.
Firefighters cleared the scene shortly before 2 a.m. on Sunday.
Damages to the structure and contents are estimated at $50,000.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
