First responders rescue 4 swimmers in waters off Nukoli‘i Beach on 9/8

NUKOLI‘I – First responders rescued four Hanamā‘ulu residents in waters off Nukoli‘I Beach in Wailua on Sunday, Sept. 8.

No injuries were reported.

Kaua‘i Fire Department personnel with the Līhu‘e and Kapa‘a fire stations, Rescue 3 aboard Air 1, and the Kaua‘i Police Department responded to the incident. 

According to a preliminary report, first responders received a report of four people needing rescue in waters off Nukoli‘i Beach in Wailua shortly after 6:20 p.m.

Rescuers arrived on scene shortly before 6:30 p.m. and discovered two adults and two children drifting in waters and holding hands approximately 100 yards offshore in waters off Nukoli‘i Beach. Using rescue surfboards, fire personnel entered the water and rescued all four swimmers. Rescue 3 aboard Air 1 received an all-clear sign from rescuers in the water before bringing the four swimmers to shore.

After being assessed by personnel from American Medical Response, the four individuals were released.

The scene was cleared shortly before 7 p.m.
