LĪHUʻE – The Kaua‘i Police Department (KPD) held a promotion ceremony last Friday at the Kaua‘i War Memorial Convention Hall to recognize the lifelong dedication of four leaders within the department.

Lieutenants Stacy Perreira and Lance Okasaki were promoted to the rank of Captain, while Captains Makana Rivera and Darren Rose were promoted to the rank of Assistant Chief. Captain Stacy Perreira began her KPD career in 2000 as a Domestic Violence Coordinator and later became a police officer in 2012. With degrees in Criminal Justice and Information Technology, she has served in patrol, communications, and administrative roles, and currently leads the department’s Crisis Negotiation Team. She most recently served as the Kawaihau District Commander.

Captain Lance Okasaki joined the department in 2012 and has served as a Lieutenant in every bureau within the department. His well-rounded experience and commitment to the community prepare him to lead with a broad understanding of department operations. His most recent assignment was Acting Captain of the Support Services Bureau, a temporary leadership role he held prior to his official promotion.

Assistant Chief Makana Rivera began his career with KPD in 2009. He has served in patrol, vice, property crimes, and major crimes, and has held leadership roles including Executive Lieutenant. Most recently, he served as Acting Assistant Chief of the Support Services Bureau, temporarily fulfilling the duties of the position prior to his formal promotion.

Assistant Chief Darren Rose joined the department in 2000 and brings over two decades of experience in patrol, narcotics, and investigations. He has held key leadership roles across multiple divisions and is a recipient of numerous honors, including KPD Employee of the Year and Hawaii State Law Enforcement Officials Association Officer of the Year. His most recent assignment was Division Captain of the Criminal Investigations Division.

The ceremony was attended by fellow officers, community leaders, and family members. Continuing a department tradition, loved ones had the opportunity to pin the new badges on the promoted officers, symbolizing their official advancement and the support behind their service.

“For those who have worked with these individuals or know them personally, their promotions today come as no surprise. They are leaders with integrity, professionalism, and heart,” said Assistant Chief Kalani Ke. “To each of you being honored, thank you for setting the standard for excellence and inspiring those around you to do the same.”
