The National Weather Service has issued a High Surf Warning for east-facing shores of Kaua‘i and Ni‘ihau currently in effect through 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 29. The warning may be extended, dropped, or modified as conditions develop.
According to the NWS, a building east swell from Hurricane Fausto will cause surf heights to build to High Surf Warning levels today and peak Tuesday bringing very strong breaking waves and powerful currents. Surf heights along east-facing are projected to reach 12 to 16 during this time.
Entering the water in these areas during the High Surf Warning is very hazardous and could cause serious injury or death. Beachgoers are also advised to use extreme caution, as large breaking waves could make it dangerous for those standing along the shoreline.
