Housing Agency announces CDBG applications and interest meetings

LĪHUʻE – The County of Kauaʻi Housing Agency will begin accepting applications for its 2027 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program projects on Friday, Oct. 2.
Applications can be obtained by contacting Anna Kanoho at iakanoho@kauai.gov. The deadline to submit applications is 4 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 12.
A virtual informational meeting and webinar will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 21, at 2 p.m. The session will provide an overview of federal funding for community needs, take public comment and explain how to apply. Connection details will be posted at www.kauai.gov/housing, along with program documents and application instructions.
The Housing Agency will also hold in-person meetings at the following dates, times and locations:
- Monday, Oct. 19, at 10:30 a.m. at the Līhuʻe Neighborhood Center – Old Site, 3353 Eono St., Līhuʻe
- Friday, Oct. 23, at 3 p.m. at the Kapaʻa Neighborhood Center, 4491 Kou St., Kapaʻa
- Monday, Oct. 26, at 1 p.m. at the Waimea Neighborhood Center, 4556 Makeke Road, Waimea
The CDBG Program is funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). It supports affordable housing, suitable living environments and economic opportunities for low- to moderate-income Kauaʻi residents.
The Housing Agency partners with nonprofits, service providers, government agencies and affordable housing developers to meet community needs. Past projects have included homeless services, substance abuse prevention and youth education, as well as shelter and family center repairs, infrastructure improvements, transitional housing, affordable rentals and down payment assistance.
The Housing Agency is also seeking public input on the second year of its 2026-2030 Five-Year Consolidated Plan and its 2027 Annual Action Plan. These plans guide how federal funds are used for housing, homelessness and community development. An approved Consolidated Plan is required for the County to receive certain HUD funding.
Written comments may be mailed to 4444 Rice St., Suite 330, Līhuʻe, HI 96766, or emailed to housing@kauai.gov. Comments received by 4 p.m. on Nov. 12 will be considered for the 2027 Annual Action Plan.
