Lost hiker rescued from Mohihi-Waialae Trail Thursday

LĪHU‘E  — Personnel from the Kaua‘i Fire Department rescued a lost male resident from Mohihi-Waialae Trail in Kōke‘e State Park on Thursday, June 4.

According to a preliminary report, first responders received a report of an overdue hiker shortly after 11:25 a.m.

Personnel with Waimea Fire Station, Rescue 3 aboard Air 1, the on-duty battalion chief, and Hawaii Division of Conservation and Resource Enforcement (DOCARE) personnel responded to the incident.

Air 1 began search operations in the Camp 10 area and along the Mohihi-Waialae Trail, where crews located the missing hiker lying on the trail. After establishing contact, rescue personnel conducted a short-haul extraction and transported the hiker to the Alaka‘i Vista Lookout. Upon arrival at the , the Alaka‘i Vista Lookout, the hiker was transferred to DOCARE personnel and transported to Kōke‘e Lodge, where emergency medical personnel were standing by. 

The scene was cleared shortly after 2:10 p.m.
