LĪHU‘E — Personnel from the Kaua‘i Fire Department rescued an injured 58-year-old female California visitor from the Nualolo Trail in Kōke‘e State Park on Tuesday, January 20.
According to a preliminary report, first responders received a report of an injured hiker shortly before 1:25 p.m.
Personnel with Waimea Fire Station and Rescue 3 aboard Air 1 responded to the incident.
First responders arrived on the scene and discovered the injured hiker approximately three miles into the trail suffering from an apparent ankle injury. Firefighters administered initial first aid on scene and prepared the hiker for transport. The hiker was short hauled to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) landing zone. Upon landing at the NASA landing zone, the hiker was transferred to Waimea Fire Station personnel and American Medical Response for further medical care, who then transported the hiker to a nearby hospital.
The scene was cleared shortly after 2:05 p.m.
