Injured hiker rescued from Waipo‘o Falls Trail Sunday

LĪHU‘E  — Personnel from the Kaua‘i Fire Department rescued an injured 50-year-old California visitor from Waipo‘o Falls Trail in Kōke‘e State Park on Sunday, June 9.

According to a preliminary report, first responders received a call of a distressed hiker shortly before 1 p.m.

Personnel with Līhu‘e Fire Station aboard Air 1 responded to the incident.

First responders arrived on the scene and discovered the injured hiker with an apparent shoulder injury. Firefighters administered first aid and stabilized the hiker’s injury. The hiker was then loaded into Air 1 and taken to the landing zone at Porters. Upon landing, the hiker was transferred to Waimea Fire Station personnel and American Medical Response for medical care.

The scene was cleared shortly after 2:15 p.m.
