LĪHU‘E — Personnel from the Kaua‘i Fire Department rescued an injured 56-year-old female Colorado visitor from Waipo‘o Falls Trail in Kōke‘e State Park on Thursday, November 13.
According to a preliminary report, first responders received a report of a distressed hiker shortly after 3 p.m.
Personnel with the Kaua‘i Fire Department’s helicopter training cadre, who were conducting certification training for new Līhu‘e firefighters at the time in Kekaha, responded to the incident aboard Air 1.
Due to adverse weather conditions at the time, the pilot and rescue personnel opted for an alternate landing zone once on scene. Initial first aid was administered on scene before the hiker was loaded into the helicopter and taken to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) landing zone. Upon landing, the hiker was transferred to Waimea fire station personnel and American Medical Response, who then transported the hiker to a local hospital for further medical care.
The scene was cleared shortly before 4:10 p.m.
