LĪHU‘E — Personnel from the Kaua‘i Fire Department rescued an injured 72-year-old Swiss visitor from Hanakāpī‘ai Beach on the Kalalau Trail on Saturday, September 13.
According to a preliminary report, first responders received a report of an injured hiker shortly after 11:30 a.m.
Personnel with Līhu‘e Fire Station aboard Air 1 responded to the incident.
First responders arrived on the scene and discovered the injured hiker Hanakāpī‘ai Beach with an apparent head injury. Initial first aid was administered on scene to control bleeding. The hiker was then taken to the Hanakāpī‘ai Stream landing zone and loaded into the helicopter, where they were taken to Princeville Airport. Upon landing at Princeville Airport, the hiker was transferred to Hanalei Fire Station personnel and American Medical Response for further medical care.
The scene was cleared shortly before 1:20 p.m.
