Injured hiker rescued on Kalalau Trail Sunday

LĪHU‘E  — Personnel from the Kaua‘i Fire Department rescued a 40-year-old female Washinton visitor from the Kalalau Trail on Sunday, July 26, with an apparent ankle injury.

Rescue 3 aboard Air 1 responded to the incident shortly before 11:45 a.m. on Sunday.

First responders arrived on scene at the mile marker 1.5 landing zone and discovered the hiker. Rescuers medically assessed the hiker at the scene, provided first aid, and loaded her into Air 1, where she was taken to Princeville Airport. Upon landing at the Princeville Airport, the hiker was transferred to American Medical Response for assessment. American Medical Response personnel then transferred the hiker to a local hospital.

The scene was cleared shortly before 12:40 p.m.
